It’s been AGES since I’ve done a French Manicure and for whatever reason I’ve been itching to do one lately. Nail trends change so quickly that it’s hard to believe a style can last so long. Can we talk about how quickly those weird suede textured polishes came and went? Shattered polish didn’t last much longer either. A favorite of brides and teenagers alike, the French Manicure is a classic here to stay.

The Dior French Manicure Pen is essentially nail polish in a pen shaped bottle. It reminds me of high school when some girls would use white out to paint their nails (gross, I know). But Dior pretty much took this concept and turned it luxe. I mean really, would you expect any less from Dior? The polish is thick yet runny, and creamy yet opaque. I carefully painted the tips of each of my nails and allowed to dry for a minute. Then I made any touch ups, especially the edges of my nails to give it a seamless look. Now I will say that it didn’t look perfect on the bottom edge where the white meets my clear nail. To touch up this area I have a little trick: take a synthetic bristle brush (I have one from a nail supply store) and a small bowl filled with acetone and carefully smooth out that line. And voila… You’ve got yourself a fancy French Manicure!

Manicure Monday: Pyrotechnic

Another Formula X for Sephora color… Are you surprised??? I received this little gem called Pyrotechnic as a free gift a few months back when they first released the entire collection. I’m sad to admit that this is only the second time I’ve worn it because I’m actually thrilled with this polish. The color, the thick formula, the pigmentation. Amazing. Move over OPI, there’s a new favorite red in town!

Manicure Monday: Hubba Hubble

WOW. Just WOW! Everyone, stop what you are doing and run, do not walk, to your nearest Sephora and pick up this color. This color, called Hubba Hubble, by Formula X for Sephora is described as an iridescent silver glitter. No. They need to change that. This is a holographic, crazy shiny glitter that screams bling! There are different sized chunks of glitter, each of which catch the light differently. The pictures can not even do this polish justice because as you move your hand it truly begins to sparkle. I thought this was the perfect polish for New Year’s Eve. I applied a silver polish by Sally Hansen as a base coat then two coats of the glitter. To be honest, I would’ve been fine with one coat but I gave it an extra coat just to be safe. I will note that it does dry to textured finished, as most glitter polishes do, because of the chunks of glitter. It isn’t something though, that deters me from saying this is my new favorite glitter polish. Ever. Hope you enjoy the look!

Manicure Monday: Fahrenheit

Better late than never, right? I’ve been a little absent recently because I’ve been hard at work at my new job! Woo hoo! A job! It’s been busier than ever with the holidays coming up. I had my first actual shift yesterday and am happy to report everything went smoothly. I love to a deep burgundy nail color around the holidays… for some reason it just seems appropriate. This color, called Fahrenheit, is a polish from the new Formula X for Sephora line that launched last month. It took me two coats to get this gorgeous gel-like consistency. Its safe to say this color is a new favorite. Enjoy!

Manicure Monday: Shake Your Groove Thing

Today’s nails are a fun mix I’ve been wanting to try for a loooong time. I bought this Deborah Lippman gold glitter polish (Shake Your Groove Thing) quite a while ago at Nordstrom and I’m so happy I did because I absolutely love it. At $18 a pop they’re not cheap (and the most expensive nail polish I own) but I had to have this limited edition color. The glitter is so heavy, in a good way, so that you get a ton of pieces with just one coat. I find that most glitter polishes are sparse and require 12+ coats to achieve a similar look. I had mine done at 3 coats. The peach color is a Covergirl Outlast Stay Brilliant color appropriately called Peaches & Cream. I’ve only tried two of the colors from this line and I have to say I’ve been very impressed. They’re very pigmented! The other color I have is a bright purple which I’m actually wearing on my toes right now. I picked up one more color this past weekend from the Covergirl line and, big surprise, another Essie color… bringing my grand total of nail polishes to 115! Woo! I’m officially a nail polish hoarder. And maybe just a little proud of it. Maybe. Just a little. Ok, yeah, I’m pretty proud of my collection.

Manicure Monday: Bachelorette Bash

I’ve decided that since I’m such a nail polish-aholic (110-ish and counting…) I’d share some of that with you. I usually paint my nails 2 or 3 times a week so the look is always changing. My colors range from pinks to blues to grays and beyond, I even have a highlighter yellow. Occasionally I’ll take a little more time with my nails and use nail stickers or paint a funky pattern. My nails are my own little mini canvas. If you want to keep up with me and my lacquer, check back every Monday!

Todays nails are by Essie. This color, Bachelorette Bash, is a dream to apply. Its such an opaque color that I barely needed two coats. I took this last photo during the day which shows the true color a bit better. Enjoy!
