The weather here has been a little bit all over the place. One day its warm and sunny, the next cool and partly cloudy, then full on 80 degrees and the beaches are packed. Today, I’m looking out the window and its cool and cloudy but this time last week it was a blissful 82 degrees and sunny as can be. This, of course, means that I’m wearing nothing less than bright yellow and my favorite sandals. We headed out for a little outlet shopping, lunch and lounging out in the sunshine. Hope you enjoy the look!

This kind of thing doesn’t exactly come around often so I felt that I had to dress appropriately. My car was nearing 16 years old this year and I’ve been saving to get a new car for about a year now. The straw that broke the camel’s back was a few weeks ago when I got home from work. I came home just fine and wanted to drop a few things off at home before running out for a few errands. A couple of minutes later I walked out ready to go, got in the car, and it wouldn’t start. That was about 3 weeks ago. It still won’t start. My family could use the car for my brother that just turned 16 so it all kind of led me to buying a new car.
So I bought a new car.
A brand new car.
And I’m thrilled about it! I’ve been loving how it drives and how comfortable it feels. The heated seats were just the cherry on top. Enjoy! 🙂

Just kidding. Please stay. I love rain more than any Californian should. I even wish for it sometimes. Well, a lot of the time. See being in California we get a lot of sunshine and thats awesome but sometimes I want a stormy day with pouring rain and thunder and dark, ominous clouds and hot chocolate and cuddles on the couch. You get the idea. Rain just makes me happy. I get giddy like a 3 year old and stare out the window up into the sky as if its the first time I’ve ever witnessed those little drops falling from the sky. Something about it is so soothing yet wildly exciting, especially when thunder really roars through the sky. I’ve lived in places were stuff like this exists and I will tell you I miss it from time to time.
That being said, I’ll be the first to admit that I definitely don’t want it every day. A few days a month would be perfect. Please and thank you. Girlfriend needs a reason to wear cute rainboots, you know what I’m sayin? (and maybe a reason to justify buying a third pair…)
My camera did not like the rain as much. Better luck next time.

I had intentions of photographing this outfit of mine after I got home from work one night but was promptly greeted by a thick layer of fog the minute I stepped out the door. In an effort to be a good boyfriend Benjamin took the pictures anyways and after a few shots we realized the moisture in the air was reflecting with the flash to create this “bubble-ish” effect on all of the photos. I didn’t hate it so we continued and ended up with these cool shots. I actually kind of like them. And I actually kind of love this outfit. Like, a lot. The necklace is a favorite and has been on repeat since the day I got it. And can we talk about pockets?! Hello, amazing skirt. Can every dress/skirt please have pockets? Note to self: Sew pockets into everything. In fact, self, sew things just with the intent of making something with pockets.

We’re officially old. Yep. After brunch in San Diego (hello lemon ricotta pancakes with fresh blueberry puree), Benjamin and I had a wild day of Ikea shopping. And maybe a little Bed Bath and Beyond. I don’t know, maybe. And you know what? It was awesome! Times like today I tend to gravitate towards the same outfits. I can’t be bothered with trying to get too done up. So, I opt for my staples of weekend wear: boots, skinny jeans and top it off with a scarf. There are literally thousands of variations of this outfit and as far as I’m concerned you can’t go wrong with any of them. Here’s 1 of 234867349857. Enjoy!
Jeans: Gap (another steal from last years post Christmas sales. $7!)

As some of you may have picked up on my last post, I GOT A NEW JOB!
This one is a big deal because it’s my first, real, big-girl job. In fact, this one of the first times in my life that I’m not working retail or at a restaurant. I’m beyond excited about it. I already went through most of training and have my first week next week. There are so many exciting things about this job that I’m looking forward to, like my shifts being 11:00 am-7:30 pm, but most of all I’m freaking excited to get dressed for it!!! After so many years of standing on my feet for 8 hours a day (anyone that’s worked retail is nodding their head right now) I’m excited to dress cute and be able to wear heels to work and NOT want to die. Ah, its the little things in life. Speaking of small things, let’s talk about this dress. Or, well, the price tag of this dress. It cost me a whole whopping $3.50. Yes, that is three dollars and fifty cents. Thanks to some insane sales at H&M recently I snagged quite a few things. I bought Benjamin some T-shirts for $1.50 a pop, a winter coat for myself for $15, a short sleeve blouse for $2.50 and then some. I mean, these deals were incredible. So, here is the dress in its shining less-than-four-dollar glory! Enjoy!
Flats: Sam Edelman
I’ve mentioned Julian Apple Pie and all its deliciousness before because, quite frankly, I’m addicted. Benjamin knows how much I love the stuff and has brought home a pie for me every once in a while. Anyways, the other night he mentioned a little surprise and lo and behold he had planned a trip to Julian for us! Its about an hour and a half journey for us so Saturday morning we headed on our way. About half an hour in we were driving by a casino and Benjamin half jokingly asked if we should stop and see what we can gamble for $20. So, I agreed. And we spontaneously went to a casino with our $20 in ones and gambled away. We were like kids in a candy store going from one shiny machine to the bright lights of the next one. Our strategy was to make small bets and cash out the tickets while we were ahead. I even managed to get ten dollars on a one dollar bet! It was wild and crazy and so much fun. On a more serious note though, I could easily see how all of the lights, attractions and gambling can suck people in. We went in with the intention of gambling the $20 we walked in with and nothing more. Thankfully, our strategy worked and while we did chip in another three dollars we walked out on top with $28.92! Not a giant win but at least we came out with more than we had coming in!
And a mere 45 minutes later we were back on the road.
We were starved by the time we arrived. And, again, by we I mean I. Yelp failed us a bit this time but we still enjoyed a stroll down the streets of Julian after our mediocre lunch. I wasn’t too worried about it though because I knew there was an apple pie calling my name very, very soon. We stopped in a few of the local shops: a used bookstore and a gift and craft boutique. We also passed by a woman and her llama. I’m not joking. It was getting to be late afternoon so we took a few photos and hit the road so that we’d get our apple pie in time (the Julian Pie Company is outside of the town and was closing at 5 p.m.). We each devoured a warm slice of apple pie and took a whole pie to go for dessert later that night. Which was promptly enjoyed. Mainly by me. And then just like that it was gone by Sunday evening.
Here’s what I wore:
My outfit details:
Dress: Banana Republic
