What I Wore: Sunny Sunday

The weather here has been a little bit all over the place. One day its warm and sunny, the next cool and partly cloudy, then full on 80 degrees and the beaches are packed. Today, I’m looking out the window and its cool and cloudy but this time last week it was a blissful 82 degrees and sunny as can be. This, of course, means that I’m wearing nothing less than bright yellow and my favorite sandals. We headed out for a little outlet shopping, lunch and lounging out in the sunshine. Hope you enjoy the look!

What I Wore: Car Shopping

IMG_8034

This kind of thing doesn’t exactly come around often so I felt that I had to dress appropriately. My car was nearing 16 years old this year and I’ve been saving to get a new car for about a year now. The straw that broke the camel’s back was a few weeks ago when I got home from work. I came home just fine and wanted to drop a few things off at home before running out for a few errands. A couple of minutes later I walked out ready to go, got in the car, and it wouldn’t start. That was about 3 weeks ago. It still won’t start. My family could use the car for my brother that just turned 16 so it all kind of led me to buying a new car.

So I bought a new car.

A brand new car.

And I’m thrilled about it! I’ve been loving how it drives and how comfortable it feels. The heated seats were just the cherry on top. Enjoy! 🙂

What I Wore: Rain, Rain Go Away

IMG_7981

Just kidding. Please stay. I love rain more than any Californian should. I even wish for it sometimes. Well, a lot of the time. See being in California we get a lot of sunshine and thats awesome but sometimes I want a stormy day with pouring rain and thunder and dark, ominous clouds and hot chocolate and cuddles on the couch. You get the idea. Rain just makes me happy. I get giddy like a 3 year old and stare out the window up into the sky as if its the first time I’ve ever witnessed those little drops falling from the sky. Something about it is so soothing yet wildly exciting, especially when thunder really roars through the sky. I’ve lived in places were stuff like this exists and I will tell you I miss it from time to time.

That being said, I’ll be the first to admit that I definitely don’t want it every day. A few days a month would be perfect. Please and thank you. Girlfriend needs a reason to wear cute rainboots, you know what I’m sayin? (and maybe a reason to justify buying a third pair…)

What I Wore: Pockets

IMG_3405

I had intentions of photographing this outfit of mine after I got home from work one night but was promptly greeted by a thick layer of fog the minute I stepped out the door. In an effort to be a good boyfriend Benjamin took the pictures anyways and after a few shots we realized the moisture in the air was reflecting with the flash to create this “bubble-ish” effect on all of the photos. I didn’t hate it so we continued and ended up with these cool shots. I actually kind of like them. And I actually kind of love this outfit. Like, a lot. The necklace is a favorite and has been on repeat since the day I got it. And can we talk about pockets?! Hello, amazing skirt. Can every dress/skirt please have pockets? Note to self: Sew pockets into everything. In fact, self, sew things just with the intent of making something with pockets.

Valentine’s Day

It’s not that I hate Valentine’s Day… it’s more of a love/hate feeling. I don’t like the day. But, I do. See, for whatever reason it never usually goes the way I would like it to. In high school I had always wanted to be one of those girls showered with gifts (because, let’s be honest, what high school girl doesn’t want to get showered with gifts?). They were the ones that got flowers and cards tied to their lockers and by third period English had received more candygrams than they could carry. By the end of the day they would walk out to the parking lot where, like clockwork, each of their cars would be secretly decorated. And I was not one of them. In fact, I was the girl that was stood up on February 14th one year. Valentine’s Day has always been a sort of bad luck day for me.

I’m turning 25 this year. I like to think that I’ve matured enough to be an adult but, if I’m being honest, I think a teensy bit of that bitterness still remains. Seeing flowers being delivered and cars decorated all reminded me of a time I wanted nothing more than to feel special. By the time I got home Friday evening it all came rushing back to me and a mini meltdown ensued. And after lots of hugs and kisses, I saw and truly appreciated the clean apartment I had come home to and the bouquet of flowers on the table. He knows me all too well. Too eager to wait, we had exchanged gifts last week when I was told I was getting a “coupon” to get my hair cut and colored. How thoughtful is that? Or maybe it was to stop my complaining? (Anyone with in-between length hair can understand!) Either way, I was psyched to go to my appointment earlier last week.

After a delicious dinner at home we headed out to grab a few bites from the chocolate bar yet again. The fog that has been hanging around the area every few nights was especially eerie that night and I tried to capture it on camera. We know the area well but with such dense fog it seemed like we were on the set of a scary movie. A few minutes into our walk we heard a loud noise down the street, to which Ben promptly informed me that T-Rex was probably going to start running down the road. It’s good thing I’m just as much of a dork as he is. We laughed and walked on, hand in hand, and just like that the stress of the day had melted away and I was left with our happiness of the moments we always share. Here’s to this year, and many more!

What I Wore: Weekend Staples

We’re officially old. Yep. After brunch in San Diego (hello lemon ricotta pancakes with fresh blueberry puree), Benjamin and I had a wild day of Ikea shopping. And maybe a little Bed Bath and Beyond. I don’t know, maybe. And you know what? It was awesome! Times like today I tend to gravitate towards the same outfits. I can’t be bothered with trying to get too done up. So, I opt for my staples of weekend wear: boots, skinny jeans and top it off with a scarf. There are literally thousands of variations of this outfit and as far as I’m concerned you can’t go wrong with any of them. Here’s 1 of 234867349857. Enjoy!

What I Wore: $3.50

As some of you may have picked up on my last post, I GOT A NEW JOB!

This one is a big deal because it’s my first, real, big-girl job. In fact, this one of the first times in my life that I’m not working retail or at a restaurant. I’m beyond excited about it. I already went through most of training and have my first week next week. There are so many exciting things about this job that I’m looking forward to, like my shifts being 11:00 am-7:30 pm, but most of all I’m freaking excited to get dressed for it!!! After so many years of standing on my feet for 8 hours a day (anyone that’s worked retail is nodding their head right now) I’m excited to dress cute and be able to wear heels to work and NOT want to die. Ah, its the little things in life. Speaking of small things, let’s talk about this dress. Or, well, the price tag of this dress. It cost me a whole whopping $3.50. Yes, that is three dollars and fifty cents. Thanks to some insane sales at H&M recently I snagged quite a few things. I bought Benjamin some T-shirts for $1.50 a pop, a winter coat for myself for $15, a short sleeve blouse for $2.50 and then some. I mean, these deals were incredible. So, here is the dress in its shining less-than-four-dollar glory! Enjoy!
